About the Band Members

Lloyd Bashkin GUITAR & VOCALS,
founding member of mrCharlie, is known widely for his soulful musical expressions. Lloyd's personal friendship with Jerry Garcia and other members of the Grateful Dead to varying degrees over the years, has greatly influenced his musical style. He has performed with Merl Saunders (from the Saunders/Garcia band), Pieces of a Dream, musicians from Van Morrison and Bob Dylan's bands and has played guitar with Jerry Garcia.

Alan Kauffman
BASS & VOCALS
Alan is an exceptionally talented bass player who has performed with numerous national artists. A student of famed LA studio session 'Wrecking Crew' bassist Carol Kaye. Alan began his career playing alto horn and later switched to guitar and bass. With an orchestra background he became active playing Broadway Musical Theatre. His studio recordings include a number of recordings and has performed with The Hooters, The Drifters, The Platters, The Lost Generation, Small Fry, Bing, and The Phaetones. Alan also works with blues guitarist Terry Harris, veteran of the Paul Buttefield Blues Band and James Cotten Blues Band.

Tamer Tewfik
PIANO & VOCALS
Tamer is classically trained pianist and vocalist. He holds a B.A. in Music and M.A. in Teaching from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia. He has performed from Maine to Moscow with greats Les Paul, Grover Washington, Jr. and Stanley Clarke. His jazz recordings and ensembles can be found on tamertewfik.com. When Tamer heard he could improvise in a rock band, he jumped on the chance to join mrCharlie.

Joey
DRUMS
Joey has been playing the drums for 30 years. He worked his way through college playing in Florida jam bands The Family and Webbed Feet, who opened for artists including Dickie Betts, Widespread Panic, Merl Saunders, and a very young Derek Trucks along the way. He also played in the Florida pop band, Clang, which included a collaboration with 1960's icon, Tiny Tim, on the album "Prisoner of Love." More recently, he opened for Rusted Root with the Philadelphia World Fusion group, Animus, with whom he has played for over 10 years.

Throw in the polyrhythmic, syncopated double-drummer attack that allows mrCharlie more adventurous possibilities with their uniquely original arrangements, and you have a sound that is at once as new and adventurous as it is familiar.

Deeply ingrained in the Philadelphia music scene since the ‘80s, the group has played many of the city’s top-tier venues, including World Cafe Live, The Stone Pony, Tin Angel, Electric Factory’s Philadelphia venue, Rock Lobster, Maui, Pier 34, Ripley Music Hall and Chestnut Cabaret, plus outdoor concerts at Rittenhouse Square and Chestnut Street.

mrCharlie has attracted and ignited crowds ranging from 500 to 15,000. No matter what the size of their live audience, mrCharlie never fails to get everyone dancing with abandon.
